Flying with a Conchord: RNZAF Band in concert with Bret McKenzie

The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) Band is once again preparing to deliver its annual concert in Wellington, for the first time playing with Grammy and Academy Award-winning songwriter and performer Bret McKenzie.

Air Force in Concert is the band’s biggest event of the year and is always a musical highlight. It will be held at 2.30pm on Sunday at the Michael Fowler Centre.

Internationally renowned for his work in film and television, McKenzie has built a reputation as one of New Zealand’s most distinctive musical voices.

This will be the first time the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band has collaborated with McKenzie, creating a uniquely Kiwi partnership.

Concertgoers can look forward to hearing music from McKenzie’s solo career, Flight of the Conchords, The Muppets, the Black Seeds and more, all brought to life by the rich sound and colour of the RNZAF Band.

The band’s talented roster of soloists will also feature throughout the programme, including Corporal Barbara Graham and the popular RNZAF Drumline. They will feature symphonic songs from film and musical theatre ensuring there is something for music lovers of all ages.

Bandmaster Warrant Officer Ben Robertson is looking forward to bringing this special collaboration to the stage.

The 65-strong RNZAF Band maintains a busy schedule of ceremonial duties, public performances and community engagements throughout New Zealand, while also representing the country at commemorative events overseas.
