Support is in the DNA of NZDF in new Defence Recruitment campaign

The New Zealand Defence Force has launched a new recruitment campaign that puts teamwork at the forefront.

The campaign, called ‘Join a team you can count on’, highlights how the Defence Force achieves epic every day – through teams of every size, shape and scale, and where nothing exceptional is ever done alone.

“Why stop at ‘one’?” asks the ad. “Join a team you can count on.”

Every execution is designed to hero a different team within the NZDF, showing what can be achieved by two, to two hundred.

The Navy, Army and Air Force are shown undertaking combat capability, peace-keeping, education and training, humanitarian aid and disaster relief.

The hero film, posters, billboards and a multitude of social films were all crafted from authentic moments of NZDF teams in action, captured by Defence photographers from the plains of Waiouru to the ice shelves of Antarctica.

Advertising agency Special Group says recruitment research into why people joined the Defence Force influenced this campaign.

“NZDF provides a wealth of reasons to join, such as diverse learning opportunities and skills, a lifetime of new experiences, the ability to make a positive difference, and comradeship.

“Despite this, research also highlights potential recruits are currently experiencing high levels of uncertainty about the future, and a feeling of anxiousness and nervousness is pervasive.

“This mindset magnifies perceived barriers to joining the NZDF.”

To attract potential recruits, Special Group wanted to demonstrate how the support of the connections found in the NZDF helped people unlock greater outcomes.

“In short, ‘nothing exceptional is ever done alone’.

“The campaign captures the power of NZDF coming together, from smaller moments to bigger missions, proving that the support our audience is seeking is built into the fabric of NZDF.

“Through the campaign, we’ll tease the next generation of recruits with all the epic experiences and connections that await them.”
