Veterans' Affairs support events helping Bay of Plenty veterans

Veterans’ Affairs is taking its support services on the road this October, with events in the Bay of Plenty to help veterans access information and assistance.

08 October, 2026

All serving and former New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) personnel are invited to attend events at Lion Foundation Centre (3 Court), Baypark Stadium, Mt Maunganui on Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 October.

Head of Veterans’ Affairs Alexander Brunt says the events provide an opportunity for veterans to meet with staff face-to-face, discuss their current or future support needs, learn about their entitlements, and make changes to the support they or their whānau receive.

"We know it can be difficult for some people to attend events during the day because of work or other commitments. That's why we're once again offering an evening session the night before the main event," says Mr Brunt.

There will be an evening session from 7pm Baypark Stadium on Tuesday 13 October for those that can’t make during the day. The main event will run from 10am to 2pm, on Wednesday 14 October also at the Baypark Stadium.

"We encourage all veterans, whether they are currently serving or have transitioned out of the Defence Force, to come along and find out what support is available to them. Family and whānau are welcome to attend too."

Veterans will be able to speak with Veterans’ Affairs staff and representatives from a range of veteran support and community organisations.

Veterans’ Affairs will be hosting another event on 15 and 16 October at the Due Drop Event Centre in Manukau City.
