Overview

The United States Army Meritorious Unit Commendation was awarded to 161 Battery, Royal New Zealand Artillery for its service in Vietnam between 15 July 1965 and 5 June 1966. During this period 161 Battery was attached to the 3rd Battalion, 319 Field Artillery Regiment, United States Army and was under the operational command of the United States 173rd Airborne Brigade. 161 Battery was also providing direct support to the 1st Royal Australian Regiment.

The Sovereign has approved the wearing of the United States Army Meritorious Unit Commendation by members of 161 Battery, Royal New Zealand Artillery.

Description

The insignia of The United States Army Meritorious Unit Commendation consists of a gold-plated rectangular frame with laurel leaves which encloses a scarlet ribbon.

Eligibility

Personnel who were posted to the 161 Battery, Royal New Zealand Artillery, between 15 July 1965 and 5 June 1966 are entitled to permanently wear the United States Army Meritorious Unit Commendation on the right breast. Personnel subsequently posted to the unit may wear the citation only while they are serving with the unit.
