The Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal

Overview

The Medalha Solidariedade de Timor-Leste (Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal) was created in 2008 to recognise peacekeeping service in Timor-Leste since May 2006.  The New Zealand Governor-General approved the wear of the Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal by eligible New Zealand Defence Force and New Zealand Police personnel.

Description

The Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal is silver in colour and circular in shape. The obverse features an image of the Timor Leste map encircled by the inscription "TIMOR-LESTE" above and "SOLIDARIEDADE" below. The reverse bears the Coat of Arms of East Timor with the inscription of "REPUBLICA DEMOCRATICA DE TIMOR-LESTE" arching above and the letters "RDTL" below.

The ribbon reflects the Timor-Leste flag.  There is a central narrow yellow stripe flanked by stripes of white, black, and red.

No clasps or bars were issued for this medal.

Eligibility

Personnel who completed 180 days of service between  1 May 2006 and  31 December 2012.  Nominations from National Authorities for personnel who served between 120 and 179 days were considered on a case-by-case basis by the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste.

More than 1100 NZDF personnel and over 170 New Zealand Police personnel have been awarded the Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal.

  • Wearing this medal

    The Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal is approved for wear by eligible individuals.  It is worn with foreign awards in the New Zealand Order of Wear.  Foreign campaign medals are worn in order of date of participation in the campaign, operation, or peacekeeping mission for which the medal was awarded.
