The Coronation Medal 1937
Overview
The Coronation Medal 1937 was issued to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI. The medal was awarded in large numbers to citizens of the British Commonwealth including New Zealanders both military and civilian.
Description
The Coronation Medal 1937 is silver and circular. The obverse bears the conjoined effigies of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, crowned and robed, facing left. The reverse features the crowned Royal Cypher "GRI", with the inscription "CROWNED 12 MAY 1937" below the Royal Cypher. The image is encircled by the inscription "GEORGE VI QVEEN ELIZABETH".
The ribbon has a central blue stripe edged withnarrow stripes of white, red and white.
There are no clasps or bars for Coronation or Jubilee Medals.
Eligibility
This medal was awarded to the Royal Family and selected officers of state, officials, and servants of the Royal Household, ministers, government officials, mayors, public servants, local government officials, and members of the Navy, Army, Air Force, and Police in Britain, her colonies and Dominions.

Wearing this medal
The Coronation Medal 1937 is worn with the Jubilee, Coronation Medals, and New Zealand Commemoration Medals in the New Zealand Order of Wear. It is always worn after King George V's Silver Jubilee Medal 1935 and before Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation Medal 1953.
