Holiday Accommodation

You can plan a family friendly holiday staying at the Army, Navy, or Air Force Welfare holiday houses at locations throughout New Zealand. These are available to NZDF personnel and their dependants at low cost.

To ensure fair access, bookings during peak holiday periods are allocated through a ballot system. Each service branch has unique criteria for ballot periods and eligibility, so be sure to review the specific guidelines.

Royal NZ Navy Motel Fund (RNZN)

The Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) Motel Fund manages two modern holiday lodges in Mt Maunganui and Taupo.

Units are available for use by:

  •  NZDF personnel and their families
  • Members of associated service organisations such as the Army, Air Force, and NZ Police Force.

Army Leave Centres (ALC)

The Army Leave Centres provide 30 holiday units situated in popular holiday destinations throughout New Zealand. These are the most widely used welfare facilities, offering affordable and high-quality accommodation to:

  • NZDF service personnel and their families
  • Members of our Civil Staff
  • Members of associated organisations, including the Navy, Air Force, Fire Service, NZ Police Force, and Returned Services Association (excluding Associate RSA Members).

Air Force Base Welfare

Air Force Base Welfare manages several holiday units in scenic locations across New Zealand. These units are available for:

  • NZDF personnel and their families
  • Members of associated organisations, including the Army, Navy, NZ Police Force, and ex-RNZAF members.

International Holiday Accommodation

NZDF personnel can also access low-cost holiday accommodation through partnerships with overseas organisations. While bookings must be made directly with these organisations, helpful information is available on the Defence Leave Centres site to guide you through the process.
