No. 40 Squadron operates two Boeing 757-2K2 aircraft in passenger and freight roles.

King Air 350
The King Air 350 (KA350) is a light, twin engine, fixed wing, nine passenger, commuter aircraft. Our Air Force has four KA350s in its fleet, introduced as part of the Air Crew Training Capability project (ACTC). The KA350 has been modified for the NZDF to allow the transport for nine passengers (C-12K), Air Warfare training and sensor suite training (MC-12K).

SH-2G(I) Seasprite Helicopter
Our Defence Force has eight SH-2G(I) Seasprite maritime helicopters, operated by No. 6 Squadron. They are flown by Royal New Zealand Navy aircrew and maintained by Royal New Zealand Air Force maintainers.

T-6C Texan II
Eleven T-6C Texan II aircraft are used to train our pilots during the Pilot ‘Wings’ Course, and pilot instructors during the Flying Instructor Course.

A109 Light Utility Helicopter
Our Royal New Zealand Air Force has five AgustaWestland A109 Light Utility Helicopters (A109LUH). They are a lightweight, twin-engine aircraft with a modern glass cockpit and a retractable wheeled undercarriage.

C-130H(NZ) Hercules (retired)
For 60 years the Royal New Zealand Air Force C-130H Hercules fleet served New Zealand at home and around the world. The fleet was operated by No. 40 Squadron and after a gradual retirement, the last three aircraft in the fleet retired from service on the 31st January 2025. The fleet clocked up more than 155,000 accident-free flying hours and nearly 100,000 landings.

P-3K2 Orion (retired)
New Zealand’s Airborne Surveillance and Response Force (ASRF) is provided by No. 5 Squadron. The ASRF tasks have most recently been carried out by the P-3K2 fleet, which retired at the end of January 2023.
