The change of government brings with it a review of Defence (Defence Review 09). The main focus of the review, which commenced in early 2009, is on whether or not the Armed Forces can meet the military capability requirements that the Government may require of it in the future, and if it can not, what needs to be done. The review will provide a fresh look at the capability requirements that shape our defence forces to ensure that they have the right balance for the foreign policy and security requirements of the next decade. The main priorities for the review include:
- development of prioritised Defence strategy to deliver outcomes,
- organisational and operational improvement, and
- improved value for money.
