Defence Review

The outcomes of the Defence Review process (Defence Assessment and Defence White Paper), the Government’s top priority for Defence in 2009/2010, are due for release by the Government this year. The paper, which provides a fresh look at the capability requirements that shape our defence forces, will be the major catalyst in driving change for the future. It will include an updated Defence capital development plan and a programme of work required to implement changes that will ensure our Armed Forces have the right balance of capabilities for the foreign policy and security requirements of the next decade and beyond. It is expected the paper will also include more detail on the ‘Anzac force’, proposed by the Governments of Australia and New Zealand in mid-2009, that would be readily available to deploy within the Pacific Region in the peacekeeping or disaster recovery roles.
