NZDF Consultation on the War Pensions Act

On behalf of the NZDF, I thank all participants for the time and consideration you provided during the consultation over the War Pensions Act 1954.

Your input has enabled us to take the first steps in over 50 years towards modern legislation that will ensure the proper care and recognition of veterans past, present and future.

I invite you to take a few moments to review our submission to the Law Commission, as well as the comments provided by the focus groups and online participants. I believe the diversity of views and depth of thought provided during consultation resulted in a true ‘voice’ that represents the men and women of the NZDF.

Though we also had to keep legal and fiscal responsibilities in mind, we used this ‘voice’ to guide our recommendations to the Law Commission. Without your voice, this review would not have been the success that it was. Thank you.

Special Thanks

The Project Team would like to extend special thanks to:

  • The members of Navy, Army, and Air Force Corporate Services who coordinated the focus groups and assisted with Road Show arrangements;
  • The support staff at each base and camp who provided excellent facilities and support for each focus group;
  • Members of the RNZRSA for their involvement – their experience and knowledge provided a helpful context that enabled participants to truly understand the issues;
  • The Law Commission for their patience and consideration throughout the review process; and
  • Most of all, the men and women who participated in the consultation process. The amazing response we received through the focus groups and online survey enabled us to write a submission that truly represented the views of the NZDF – your thoughts, views and explanations, are what shaped this review, and will continue to shape policy and programs as we go forward.
