Approximately 70 NZDF personnel and a small contingent of NZ Police deployed to Tonga on November 18 2006 following disorder and rioting in the country. During their short two week deployment, which finished on December 2 2006, they helped Tongan security forces and their Australian counterparts to re-open Fau’amotu International Airport for civilian flights. The combined New Zealand-Australia Taskforce was led by Lieutenant Colonel Darren Beck.
