What is RAMSI's role?
RAMSI's military contingent is made up of soldiers from Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Tonga.
RAMSI was set up to act as a deterrent to destabilising events and providing support to the PPF and RSIPF.
It is also committed to enhancing the safety and security of all Solomom Islanders, not just the Police and other RAMSI personnel.
The military's patrols and presence are aimed at reducing the threat of violence by providing extra security which enables the PPF and RSIPF to work in a safe and secure environment.
The New Zealand contingent works within the framework of the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI).
Their primary roles include assisting PPF and RSIPF from other RAMSI countries to maintain security. The New Zealand Defence Froce (NZDF) personnel also assist with external security at Rove Prison. In addition, NZ soldiers conduct patrols in Honiara in conjunction with the PPF and RSIPF and assists with provincial patrolling seeking to make contact with as many people as possible.
