In Sinai, Egypt, there is a New Zealand Contingent Multinational Force & Observers (NZCMFO). Their mission is to supervise the implementation of the security provisions of the Egyptian-Israel Treaty of Peace.
In Israel/ Lebanon, New Zealand defence personnel are part of the United Nations Truce Supervisory Organisation (UNTSO). Military observers remain in the Middle East to monitor ceasefires, supervise armistice agreements, prevent isolated incidents from escalating and assist other UN peacekeeping operations in the region.
