Support Element: Middle East

Five NZDF personnel in the Middle East provide a support mechanism for NZDF force elements deployed to Afghanistan and also assist co-located coalition partners with the movement of freight and personnel.

In addition to the five NZDF personnel, RNZAF crew and support staff from 40 Squadron (C130 Hercules) deploy for short periods to provide air transport to the NZ contingent in Afghanistan during rotations.

Support Element: Middle East

During the NZ PRT rotations (6 monthly) the Support Element Team grows in numbers to assist NZDF personnel transiting in and out of Afghanistan.  At this time the team is extremely busy with the movement of freight and personnel deploying to Afghanistan and personnel returning to New Zealand.

All NZDF personnel returning to New Zealand after their six month deployment to Afghanistan go through equipment checks, and health and psychological briefs.  This process is designed to help them prepare to transition back to life in New Zealand.

Personnel also have the opportunity to relax and enjoy some home comforts before the long flight home to New Zealand.
