The Personnel Administration Development Team (PADT) at JLSO is working on the project, and is monitoring the number of payslips printed throughout the NZDF to support the drive to a more sustainable workplace.
Paper Payslips
The team hopes to have paper payslips eliminated and so save significant money and time spent by administration staff separating, distributing and filing paper payslips. Currently 50% of NZDF personnel have daily access to a computer and it is those personnel who JLSO would like to encourage to “turn off” their payslip.
Benefits to the Individual
The computer system KEA provides the most recent as well as all archived pay and leave information. This detail is available 24 hours a day. Where service personnel rely on a hardcopy of their pay detail they can be printed either directly from KEA or via their administration unit. The Army is installing KEA kiosk machines in their camps to enable amongst other things, personnel to have greater access to pay and leave details. Once these are installed, the location of these machines in each camp will be announced.
JLSO is currently investigating SMS (texting) and emailing solutions as an effective form of communicating a change (e.g. promotion, allowance paid) to an individual’s pay details. This would further reduce the need to generate paper payslips and ensure the NZDF takes advantage of effective technological solutions to improve its business operations.
The chart (below) shows the percentage of personnel who have turned off the paper payslips by Service and the change over the last two months.
