Cadet Forces Acknowledge Police Support

On 9 March 2010, Wing Commander Guy Bendall, Commandant of New Zealand Cadet Forces (NZCF), presented Police Commissioner Howard Broad with an NZCF plaque and a framed course photo as a token of the Cadet Force’s appreciation for their support.

The Police hosted the latest NZCF Advanced Leaders course at the Royal New Zealand Police College, in January. The nine-day Advanced Leaders Course provided 40 senior cadets (aged 17–20 years)—from all three Services—with training in the skills they need to contribute fully to their Units’ training programmes, including:

  • team building
  • functional leadership
  • ceremonial drill
  • risk management
  • instructional technique, and
  • unit administration.

The senior cadets also enjoyed the opportunity to view the firing range and complete the Police Physical Competency test.

The collaboration is a prime example of the close relationship that exists between the Police and the wider Defence Force. With recognition at the highest levels of the mutual advantages such inter-Government cooperation brings, it is likely that the relationship between the NZCF and the Police will become even stronger in the future.
