ANZAC Day commemorations
The Minister of Defence, the Honourable Dr Wayne Mapp, recently launched a survey seeking opinions about a proposed NZDF Medal for military service, and the NZDF wants to hear your thoughts.
The proposed NZDF Medal will recognise the unique requirements of military service, such as commitment to the Crown and the imposed constraints on employment conditions and personal life.
Complete the survey online at the NZDF website before the close date of 23 July at: https://forms.nzdf.mil.nz/nzdf/medallic-survey.asp.
The survey was initiated as a result of the National Government’s pre-election Veterans’ policy. The policy promised to support the Returned and Services’ Association of New Zealand’s (RNZRSA) proposal to introduce a NZDF Medal in recognition of New Zealanders who have served in our regular and non-regular forces since 3 September 1945.
To ensure that fair eligibility criteria for the new medal are determined, a Joint Working Group has been established and tasked with consulting both current and ex-military service personnel and the public.
It will report its findings back to the government by 30 September 2009.
