New Zealand Defence Force personnel joined the Governor General His Excellency Lieutenant General The Right Honourable Sir Jerry Mateparae and Lady Janine Mateparae at a commemorative service at the National War Memorial in Buckle Street, Wellington at 11.00am on Friday 11 November.

Armistice Day is the anniversary of the official end of World War I, November 11, 1918. It commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies and Germany, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front, which took effect at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
As part of the service a dawn to dusk Vigil was placed over the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior.
Armistice Day services were held around the country to commemorate the sacrifice of those who died serving New Zealand in the First World War and all subsequent wars.
