The Royal New Zealand Air Force Base Woodbourne golf course is set to close due to dwindling members and no longer being financially viable.
Wing Commander Jackie Ward from Operational Support Wing Base Woodbourne, says the closure of the golf course was inevitable with only 40 members, 10 of which were New Zealand Defence Force personnel, and annual maintenance costs of around $54,000.
"Despite efforts by members to generate income through sponsorship and funding grants, the club has been unable to meet its financial responsibilities.
"The closure is set to take affect from 31 January 2009, and members can be assured they will be reimbursed their membership fees." she said.
