The two Royal New Zealand Air Force C-130 Hercules that have been conducting low-level flights around the central North Island this week will soon be returning to Base Whenuapai as exercise TACEX 08 comes to an end.
The exercise, involving aircrew from RNZAF Number 40 Squadron, has included low-level mountain flying around the central North Island from as low as 250 feet and the dropping of light equipment over the Raumai Drop Zone.
The training is to ensure aircrews are familiar with the type of operations that are often used in overseas deployments.
C-130 Hercules captain Squadron Leader Andy Scott said the exercise had gone smoothly.
“The exercise has gone really well and is a great confidence boost for personnel who are working towards becoming qualified in tactical operations. For those who are already qualified, it has been an excellent opportunity to re-familiarise themselves.”
