Cultural fest descends on Waiouru

October 4 2007

Around 300 participants are expected for this year’s New Zealand Army Cultural Festival at the Waiouru Military Camp, from October 12 – 14.

Waiouru is home to the Army’s National Marae.  All members of the Army pass through the marae during their careers making it the spiritual home of the New Zealand Army/ Ngati Tumatauenga.

The festival is both a celebration of New Zealand’s unique military culture - a combination of the martial traditions of the British soldier and the Maori warrior - and a chance to enhance the esprit de corps of the Army and wider NZDF.

Nine groups will perform during the festival.  They are from the Army camps of Waiouru, Linton, Burnham and Trentham, as well as Territorial Force units, the Royal New Zealand Navy, and from outside the military.
