Navy frigate heading to Timaru and helicopter to visit schools

The second of the Navy’s ANZAC Class frigates, HMNZS TE MANA, will visit Timaru from Thursday 30 August to Monday 3 September. 

The Commanding Officer of TE MANA, Temuka born and bred Commander Wilson Trumper, says” I am extremely proud to be bringing TE MANA down to my homeport of Timaru”. 

HMNZS TE MANA’s Seasprite Helicopter will make two special visits in Timaru on Thursday 30 August.  Under the command of Naval Pilot, Lieutenant Commander James Taylor (Helensville), the Seasprite Helicopter will be landing at OPIHI COLLEGE, Temuka at 1000 am and TIMARU BOYS HIGH SCHOOL at 12:00 midday. 

Of special note – onboard the Seasprite for the Opihi College landing will be former old boy Commander Wilson Trumper who will drop in to visit his former school and meet the teachers and students.

Commander Trumper and his crew of 163 men and women are looking forward to meeting the people of Timaru and warmly invite members of the public to visit the ship and meet the personnel of your Navy on Saturday 1 September from 10:00 am to 02:00 pm. 

HMNZS TE MANA will depart Timaru on Sunday 2 September bound for Dunedin.
