Runway walk for Arthritis sufferer

1 August 2007

Personnel from Ohakea Air Force Base and students from Clifton School in Bulls will join arthritis sufferer Andrew McNeur as he walks the length of Ohakea’s main runway on Friday August 3.

The former RNZAF Air Security Guard is walking from the Cape to the Bluff as part of a “Walking it Off” challenge to raise awareness and funds for the Arthritis Foundation of New Zealand.

The runway walk will begin at 9:15am with participants donating a gold coin to the Arthritis Foundation of New Zealand.

Having served in the RNZAF, Andrew felt it was appropriate that RNZAF Base Ohakea be included.

His career in the Air Force saw him serve in the Solomon Islands and undertake tasks in the Pacific and United Arab Emirates.
“Andrew showed during his service that he had determination, and doing this walk shows he still has the qualities we respect in the Air Force,”  Air Security Section Commander Warrant Officer Neil Millet said.
