Over 40 secondary school Careers Advisors will the have opportunity to experience the diverse range of career options within the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) at the Careers Advisors Visit, 11 to 15 June.

The Careers’ Advisors Visit will provide an insight into the training, lifestyle and benefits that are gained from a career in the Navy, Army or Air Force.

During the week Advisors from various colleges, including Auckland Girls’ Grammar, Te Puke College and Southland Boys’ High School will visit Devonport Naval Base, Linton Army Camp and the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) Base at Ohakea.

“The concept of a tri-Service visit is a new and exciting initiative that will showcase career opportunities available within the Defence Force,” said Director of Air Force Recruiting Squadron Leader Lisa O’Doliveira.

“Careers Advisors will be able to see the training facilities within the NZDF, interact with personnel, and network with teachers or trainers in similar vocations.”

The week will begin with a visit to Devonport Naval Base on 12 June where attendees will experience various naval activities including sea safety training, and diving and explosive ordnance.

On 13 June attendees will visit the RNZAF Base at Ohakea, near Palmerston North.  RNZAF personnel will demonstrate the role of the Iroquois helicopters, fixed wing flying training, crash fire fighting, and air craft maintenance.

All things Army will be the order of the day on Thursday 14 June when the group will visit Linton Army Camp.  The careers advisors will have the opportunity to find out about Light Armoured Vehicles, Mistral Air Defence System, and see electronics and communications equipment displays.  Transport, accommodation and meals during the Careers Advisors Visit will be provided by the NZDF.
