NZ Defence Touch Team aim for gold

6 March 2007

The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) over-30s Touch team will be aiming for a gold medal when they play at the New Zealand Nationals Masters at Auckland’s North Harbour Stadium from 9 to 11 March.

Team Captain Staff Sergeant Greg Mildon said the NZDF team is pleased to be invited to play at the NZ Nationals Masters.

“After winning the silver medal in this grade last year and having recently beaten the Australian Defence Force touch teams we are hoping to continue our successful run,” he said.

The NZ Touch Nationals are organised annually by Touch New Zealand.  It is the major representative event for NZ Touch and is open to all provincial teams and teams from the NZDF and New Zealand Police.  This year 32 teams are involved in the tournament.

Touch is one of 11 sports codes approved by the NZDF for participation and competition at unit and representative level.  Other sports include basketball, netball, rugby, golf, hockey, and volleyball.
