The 21st Battalion Singapore Artillery (21SA) is preparing to take up gun positions for its annual training exercise in Waiouru over the period 21 January - 10 February 2007.
The contingent is made up of 494 members of the Singaporean Armed Forces (SAF) and includes 12 PRIMUS self-propelled Howitzers, four 120mm mortars tracked carriers (MTC), mini Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (mini-UAVs) and weapon-locating radar.
Army personnel from Waiouru and Linton will provide logistical and liaison support to the Singaporean contingent during the exercise. The contingent was welcomed at the NZ Army’s Marae, Rongomaraeroa o Nga Hau e Wha, in Waiouru on 23 January 2007.
The annual exercise enhances New Zealand’s strong defence relations with Singapore by providing training opportunities and maintaining interoperability. The annual exercise has been conducted by the SAF in Waiouru since 1997.
