Samoa Tsunami

A Royal New Zealand Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft from No. 40 Sqn arrived in Samoa on the morning of 01 October 2009 carrying NZ Aid, Red Cross and NZDF personnel, as well as medical and relief supplies including emergency shelters to help the people of Samoa affected by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami. An Air Force Orion was dispatched to carry out searches for missing people and provide images and information to the Governments of Samoa and New Zealand to help authorities determine the extent of the damage.  A Navy diving team and Army engineers and medics are also assisting with the relief effort in Samoa. HMNZS CANTERBURY has also deployed to the region with supplies.
