LT COL Jones takes a swing on PT Hill - Afghanistan.

07 January 2008

A small group of hardy adventurers braved the early morning chill to climb ‘PT Hill’ and welcome the first rays of sun for 2008.

Warrant Officer A.J. Johnson, LT COL Jones, LT COL Leabourne, LT COL Tan (SAF), and CAPTAINS Hong (SAF) and Collins left Kiwi Base at 0600 hours on 01 January 2008 with the temperature reading a cool minus 17.

The initial climb was undertaken in darkness but once at the top, a few golf balls were hit and a flask of hot chocolate was shared while they waited for the first ray of sun for 2008 to appear over the mountains.

When the light finally appeared the view became spectacular, and highlighted the valley.  When asked if the early start, the freezing cold and the climb was worth the effort, the resounding reply from the group was “Yes!”, with WO2 A.J. Johnson adding that it was "a morning and a New Year to remember".
