Chief of Navy, Rear Admiral David Ledson, announced this week that the Navy’s Sailor of the Year 2007Leading Marine Technician (Propulsion) Christopher Henricksen
of HMNZS TE KAHA.

LMT(P) Henricksen won the Award because for displaying performance and leadership qualities of a level well beyond his years as a Junior Rating. He has demonstrated willingness to take charge of situations, exercise initiative, and to lead other personnel. He can be relied upon to ‘do the right thing’ and to apply good judgement in situations, providing a model of leadership for others to emulate within the RNZN.

A Selection Board chaired by the Warrant Officer of the Navy, WOSA Roberts and comprising Warrant Officers and Chief Petty Officers from across the Navy considered 10 nominations for the Navy’s Sailor of the Year.

After reviewing the Selection Board’s recommendation, RA Ledson commented that "Every one of the Sailors nominated was a very strong candidate. They each clearly have served as role models of professionalism and personal dedication to the Navy.  The performance and the contributions each has made, particularly in terms of demonstrating their commitment to the Core Values of the navy, made the final selection very difficult". he said.
