Warrant Officer of the Royal New Zealand Navy

WOEW Dean Bloor

Warrant Officer Dean Bloor was appointed to Warrant Officer of the Navy on 30 September 2009. He was born in Auckland and raised in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. He attended Taradale High School and joined the Royal New Zealand Navy as an Ordinary Seaman Electronic Warfareman on 16 September 1981. He completed Basic Common Training and Basic Branch Training, at HMNZS TAMAKI before joining HMNZS TARANAKI on 12 February 1982 as member of her Decommissioning crew.  

WO Bloor’s sea service has included postings to HMNZ Frigates TARANAKI, OTAGO, WAIKATO, CANTERBURY, SOUTHLAND, WELLINGTON, TE MANA, TE KAHA and survey vessels TUI and MONOWAI. He has served ashore in Naval Shore Establishments TAMAKI, PHILOMEL and the Royal New Zealand Naval College.

WO Bloor has held positions of Electronic Warfare Instructor at sea and ashore, Electronic Warfare Training Officer at the Maritime Warfare Training Centre and Whole Ship Coordinator and Command Warrant Officer Positions onboard PHILOMEL and TE KAHA.

In 1995 he successfully graduated from the Royal Australian Navy First Line Elint Course at HMAS ALBATROSS, NSW Australia. In October 2005 WO Bloor was the first RNZN Senior Rating to attend and successfully graduate from Class 121 leadership course at the United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, Newport Naval Station, Newport, Rhode Island.

In 2008 WO Bloor attended the New Zealand Defence Force Command and Staff College, successfully graduating from the inaugural Tri Service Warrant Officer Advanced Course 01/08. WO Bloor is married to Leonie and they have two daughters Jacqueline and Ashleigh. They currently reside in Northcote, North Shore, Auckland.
