CSC buildings
The Command and Staff College is situated on the Trentham Military Camp in Upper Hutt near Wellington. Set slightly apart from the main camp, the college has its own barracks and car parking facilities.
College facilities consist of a 50 seat lecture theatre with video-conferencing and 3 syndicate rooms equipped with data projectors each capable of holding up to 20 people. The small but well-resourced research centre is the heart of the College's research facilities. There is a lounge area with Sky television and kitchen to cater for course members and guests, and all college staff have their offices in the main building.
The barracks are attached to the college with course members accommodated in individual rooms with, when numbers permit, a separate study room; shared kitchen and lounge areas with Sky television, laundry, a small gym and outside picnic area.
Information Technology
Course members are issued with their own personal notebook computer for their use while on course. The college and barracks are a wireless environment giving course members access to the dedicated College LAN and internet throughout both buildings.
Research Centre
The NZDF Command and Staff College has a small research centre for the exclusive use of course members.
Research staff provide a specialist service to course members and staff of the college, including tuition and support in information literacy skills and research techniques, both in print and online media.
The collection of 4,000 monographs, 48 serial titles and DVDs is focussed on the topics taught at the college. Online access is provided to a small number of New Zealand and international databases through the Defence Library. The strengths of the collection are in international relations, military command and leadership, military strategic thought, security and defence. Course members of Joint Command and Staff Course and Joint Junior Staff Course also enjoy access to Massey University Library’s collection of print and online resources through their enrolment with Massey.
Social program
Course members are encouraged to arrange a social programme of their own choosing, while the college will arrange a number of organised functions depending on the course.
The college arranges a welcome dinner attended by course members, college staff and distinguished guests for each course, as well as a graduation dinner to which partners are also invited. Other functions arranged by the College include a family Bar-B-Que, a mid-course dinner, a dinner or cocktail party for the visiting Australian Command and Staff College on Joint Command and Staff Course as well as a number of sporting afternoons.
Partners and families of course members are encouraged to participate in the social events and are always welcome visitors to the college.
Recreation and fitness
The college has a room equipped with a rowing machine, cross-trainer and exercise bike for course members to use when in the barracks. However, course members have access to the full gymnasium facilities of Trentham Camp, including weights room, gym, squash courts, playing fields and an outdoor swimming pool.
