Services in Support of the Government and the Community

NZDF supports the Government and New Zealand with a wide variety of services ranging from ceremonial support and training assistance, to emergency support and search and rescue.

Navy

  • One frigate for emergency tasks, including SAR and Medical Assistance/Evacuation.
  • Three Inshore Patrol Crafts for emergency tasks, including SAR.
  • One Diving Team for emergency tasks, including under-water search and EOD.
  • One 25-person Civil Defence Response Group.
  • On-shore personnel for fire fighting, as available.

Army

  • Personnel in North Island and South Island for emergency tasks, including SAR and Medical Assistance/Evacuation.
  • Personnel on call for Civil Defence.
  • EOD Teams (North and South Island).
  • In-camp personnel for Fire fighting, as available.

Air Force

  • One Iroquois for emergency tasks, including SAR, Fire Fighting and Casualty Evacuation.
  • One Orion (or one Hercules) for emergency tasks, including SAR and Medical Assistance/Evacuation.
  • One Hercules for emergency flights
  • One EOD Team
  • One 25-person Civil Defence Response Group.
  • On-base personnel for fire fighting, as available.
