Canada’s Maritime Command hosted a Pacific Fleet Review between 10-13 June, to celebrate their naval centenary. Over a dozen warships from Pacific navies—including TE KAHA and ENDEAVOUR— along with Canadian Coast Guard vessels, joined a flotilla of Canadian warships to celebrate the anniversary.

Navy Reservist Lieutenant Paul Eady recently returned to New Zealand after six months monitoring the military armistice in Korea with United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission (UNCMAC). As a Regular Force marine engineer LT Eady had never been posted overseas, so was delighted when he was asked to deploy to the Korea Peninsula as a Reservist. The two Vaeas: Tongan Prime Minister and RNZAF pilot

George Alipate Tupou or ‘Baron Vaea’ as he became better known, was the 12th Prime Minister of Tonga, presiding over the Pacific nation from 1991 until 2000. What’s less widely known about the former Prime Minister, who died a year ago on Monday, is that he was the first Tongan (and probably the first Pacific Islander) to enlist with the Royal New Zealand Air Force, operating No 6 (Flying Boat) Squadron Catalina planes in the Pacific during the Second World War.
